Standish Panther's U-12's
Manager: Pete Sturgess
Assistant Coach: Dave Mclean
This season the U-12 squad has moved away from the traditional 9-a-side format to play the exciting indoor game of Futsal.
Futsal is F.I.F.A.’s only recognised version of the small-sided-game and it is a fast moving game where the emphasis for young players is on technique and skill development. The game has its own set of rules (including a 10yd penalty if the team gives away more than 5 fouls in the half). This means that fouling and all the unsavoury aspects of the “beautiful game” are reduced in favour of quick movement and passing.

The squad this season has done really well adapting to the demands of Futsal. The ball is heavier with a reduced bounce so players have to work hard to control, manipulate and pass the ball. However, there has been an improvement in the players ability to pass, move and deal with the 1v1 situations that occur.
The game of Futsal is very tactical and the squad has practiced defending in a “diamond” and they have adapted really well to these different demands. The exciting part is that any young player interested in Futsal has the chance to play for England as there is a national squad that plays in World and European competitions.
The team trains every Wednesday evening at Standish High School (6-7) so if you want to get involved in this rapidly growing indoor game then please contact the club for more details.
